Riding Your Motorbike Abroad – Does Your Insurance Policy Cover You?

When it comes to taking your motorbike abroad, there seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding people’s motorbike insurance policies. As there are multiple types of insurance cover for a motorbike, so there are different limitations when it comes to riding your motorbike abroad.

One of the most common queries by motorcyclists in the UK is whether or not they are covered to ride their bike in Europe. A quick ferry across the English Channel gives UK bikers access to the countless roads across mainland Europe. Checking the small print, many bikers will see that their policy covers them for up to 30 days travel within the EU in any 12 month period, with some having up to 150 days allowance.

Breakdown cover within the UK is usually included for the same amount of time and will often include hotel accommodation and replacement vehicle options.

When it comes to travelling outside of the EU it becomes more difficult to find UK motorbike insurance policies that will include cover, although it’s possible to find some insurance companies who will include cover in specific countries such as Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.
