Calne Police Issue Warning Over Illegal Motorbikes

Following a series of complaints in the local area, police in Calne, Wiltshire have issued a statement saying they will seize and crush any mini motorbikes found being used on public roads.

Calls from residents reporting that the mini motos are being used more frequently on roads and pavements have left the police with no choice but to clamp down on their illegal use, finding themselves with a collection of small-engined bikes that will be either auctioned off or crushed.

Calne police are reminding bikers that the same laws apply to mini motos as they do to their larger counterparts – namely that users must be over 16, wearing a helmet, displaying ‘L’ plates and have the relevant driving licence and motorbike insurance.

Hastings Offering Free Personal Accident Cover

Insurer Hastings Direct, through their motorbike insurance division “Hastings Bike Team”, are planning to offer bikers up to £15,000 Personal Accident cover on every bike insurance policy for free, including up to £750 cover for helmet and leathers.

While not as well known in the motorcycle insurance field as some of the other mainstream bike insurers, Hastings Bike Team consists of insurance specialists well equipped to deal with most technical insurance queries.

With the weather looking to improve daily as we go into the spring / summer months, more and more bikers are re-taking to the roads, meaning many will need to be extra vigilant, paying due care and attention and not neglecting the possibility of an accident.

Bike Insurers Urge Riders To Take Care In The Spring

As the weather finally begins to look like improving, many motorbike enthusiasts are taking to the road again for the (hopefully!) long summer ahead. However, with the increased numbers of riders on the road comes a higher chance of accidents, and a leading motorbike insurance company has come forward to urge riders to be extra careful particularly in the spring.

Simon Douglas of AA Motorbike Insurance says that they often see an increase of 40% in claims, as many riders tend to be rusty after a long winter without riding. This can even affect the most experienced riders, as many months away from a motorbike tends to require at least one or two rides to get to grips with it again.

“We have all heard of road rage, but at this time of year the big danger to bikers is ‘road rust’ among drivers who have lost the habit of looking out for bikes. The skills of many motorcyclists need polishing too after a long lay-up, so it’s important for both to be aware of the risks as the results can be tragic,” he said.
